The first thing to understand is that lab grown diamonds are diamonds. They are not simulants like for instance, cubic zirconia or moissanite, which look quite like diamond but are actually a completely different material.

Diamonds are pure carbon, crystallised in the cubic system (whether naturally occurring or lab grown). Natural diamonds formed over a billion years ago, deep beneath the surface of the Earth. Lab grown diamonds are grown in weeks, using High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) or Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) processes.

For many people, natural, mined diamonds are the authentic choice and for some, the only choice. For an increasing number of people, lab grown diamonds offer more choice, the opportunity to own a larger, higher quality diamond for a given budget and for some, offer an arguably more ethical, sustainable alternative.
